Mr & Miss Uniten Top 5

Mr Uniten Top 5

Navinderan Mageswaran
Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Hons.)

Uniten has made Navin who he is today. In year 2006, a year after entering Uniten, Navin inspired few other friends to set up the English Debate Society in Uniten.  He quickly led about 50 members and about 20 who are actively involved in training every week.

He then became Uniten Debate team Captain and led the team to many national and international tournaments, the highlight being Singapore Open in 2007. He trained and led 4 teams to that tournament. He went on to train an all women team for MMU Woman’s Debate and the team did well to finish in the top half. Navin went on to inspire many on debating and the passion for English. He goes out of his way to make Uniten’s name back on track in the local debating arena. Despite problems with funding, he still managed to get team up and to participate in any available tournaments.

He was the Director of Uniten  1st Debate workshop in 2007 and was the advisor for the committee for Uniten Invitational Debate 2008. He was the captain for 3 years and since passed on the legacy to his juniors to carry on.  He has brought a new life into debating for Uniten and made the local debating arena aware of the presence of Uniten and its debater.
He then joined the Society of Ingenieur and in a year became the President. Navin was the president for SIR and was with a member of more than 120. He then got involved with the Institute of Engineers Malaysia under the Young Engineers Section. He organized many events with his committee for both Uniten and other university students. He made sure his committee learn and his able to make do with what they have. He helped Uniten to instill leadership in each and every member of his society.

He was the first student to be awarded best student member award for 8 months straight, before being awarded the overall best student member in the year 2008 by The Institute of Engineers of Malaysia. At the same time, he inspired The Society of Ingenieur (SIR) to a record 8 months of being the top student society in Malaysia and then went on to grab the coveted best student society of the year.  This was also the first time, Uniten has won the prestigious award, which usually won by the local universities. Uniten’s name was made known to all other universities and also among the engineers in Institute of Engineers Malaysia.

All this he achieved being Uniten student and with his passion to make a difference, he was also elected in mid 2008 to be the first student to head the Student Affairs Portfolio – under the Young Engineers Section, of The Institute of Engineers Malaysia. He made history as previously the post was only held by working engineers. With his passion and determination, the board was convinced that he was the right man for the job. He oversees the welfare of about 8000 engineering student members from all over the country. He heads the Student Representative Council of Young Engineers Section which its members are all the presidents of all the engineering society around the country.

To date, he has given more than 20 talks in various universities around Malaysia regarding the institute of Engineers Malaysia, the benefits of participating in Non-academic activities, the role of students as young leader and so on. He had been again awarded as the best Portfolio Director in the year 2009 for his outstanding work with his student affairs portfolio. He is instrumental in setting up IEM -Student Chapters around Malaysia and so was he in the setting up of the IEM Student Chapter in Uniten in 2010. He was re-elected to head his portfolio for another year and he currently continues making history and making his mark and also Uniten’s mark in the eye of the nation. He has also encouraged and grown many other juniors as leaders and currently they work very closely with him. He has also manage to create a very strong link between the local unis and Uniten through the formation of the Student Representative Council. Navin has contributed tremendously towards the growth of the students of Uniten and also manage to make Uniten proud in both national and international arena.

He is truly a leader in many forms and his passion drives the rest forward. He helps Uniten generate Professional, one way or the other. His determination in succeeding is next to none and his ability to be vocal has seen him to be part of the IMECHE STUDENT DIALOGUE SECTION past two years.
He has also joined many other clubs and society in Uniten and making a difference in everything he does.  He is a friendly and charming person and it will be a miss if you do not know him. He will always go that extra mile to make you comfortable and feel at home.

Law Yi Feng
Bachelor of Computer Science

Well, Law Yi Feng is very well known in COIT not only among the students, but also by all the lecturers at COIT.

Personality wise, he has a very happy go lucky kind of personality which makes him a very approachable person.

He may seems as the playful type but he always get the job done with the up most speed and proficiency. I personally have worked with him in countless events for CLICQ during the pass and he is a very trustworthy and accountable person which i feel is his finest quality.

As for the clubs and society, he is the current president of CLICQ 2009/2010 and he had directed quite a number of events such as the recent UNITEN PC Fair.

ALMIE ARIFF MUNARAS KHAN aka BOB
BASC. IT (IS)

ok..reason sy pilih bob sebab his contribution for uniten adalah dia adalah salah seorang ahli kelab wawasan uniten di mana dia masih aktif dalam kelab ini sejak foundation sehingga kini dan dia juga one of the ajk in gradnight community pada tahun 2010. bob patut menang dlm competition ni sebab ramai yang mengenali bob tak kira pelajar2 COIT mahupun COE. ramai juga lecturer2 COIT yang mengenali dia. bob seorang yg peramah, suka menolong orang dalam kesusahan dan mudah mesra dikalangan kwn2. (ni ikhlas ni. aku rasa nk tergelak pn ada time aku nk reply mesej ni. hahaha). sekian..
Tan Chuen Hang
B. Civil Engineering (Hons.)

Our Institution of Civil Engineering (ICE) Uniten Student Chapter is the first of its kind in Malaysia. The founder is Tan Chuen Hang. He was also the president for Semester 08/09.

If I'm not mistaken he was the Vice-President for Civil Engineering Student Staff Council (CESSC) for Semester 07/08.

He was the Vice President for the Green Camp which was held last year.

He was was one of the two Uniten representatives to Bayer Young Environmentalist thingy.

He's always a Dean's List student since Foundation. Very active in class, keen to learn and throwing good competent questions to the lecturers. He's always the one who handles the photocopy of the notes in most of our classes throughout my 4 years classes with him. He's very generous in sharing his knowledge and always sincere in teaching or helping others. He'll make sure you'll understand if you ask him something. He's kind and friendly. If you try to pull his legs by ridiculing him, he'd just be smiling. No sensitive issue. Very humble and down to earth. He's now a JPA scholar to continue his Masters Degree abroad but I'm not sure where.
